Yes on the vac advance. Disconnected it and plugged the port for now. Seems reasonably peppy for what it is (big heavy bus) even without it. Did not measure dwell. It's a factory electronic ignition. Since I posted that, I jumpered the ballast resistor and got a great improvement in performance. So I'm thinking either the spark is weak for some reason, or the sooty plugs are demanding more than the stock ignition can provide. Not sure why #6 should be particularly weak.

Forgot to mention the problem gets considerably worse when the trolley is good and hot. Heat sensitivity in anything often points to electronics.
