All vehicles need to flex somewhere, either in the suspension as is the case in most modern day vehicles, or in the frame as is the case in our trucks. As I understand it, Dodge rigidly mounted the exhaust system to both engine and frame because there was no alternative technology to hang the exhaust system. As a result, extreme frame flex has sometimes resulted in cracked exhaust manifolds or broken pipes. With the advent of modern polymer rubber/plastics, exhaust systems are now universally suspended in flexible hangers. Had this technology existed in the day our trucks were built, I can only imagine that the exhaust systems would have also been mounted with the flexible hangers. If you have the opportunity to switch your mounts to a floating type of hanger, you might want to give it some thought.
