Yes it can be done. I know Cheyenne Dave over on the PWA forum has done it. But you will be hard pressed to get any cleaner air than that through an oil bath filter. It was not so long ago that John Deere garden tractors could still be ordered with the Heavy Duty air cleaner option that was an oil bath filter that replaced the standard paper filter.
