In Silicon Valley, You could simply leave scrap metal at the curb in front of your house and it would be picked up. I decided to get in on the Bonanza the next time. went to the recylers. First weigh the truck with the metal in it. Then dump the scrap. Get a new weight. Then dump any Stainless Steel (I had a SST BBQ). Then weigh again. Go collect your money. Except they didn't pay me the $17 for the BBQ because they need to wait a week for someone I might have stolen the BBQ from to check their facility. A photo of me and the BBQ was taken for the files. I guess with all the metal thievery, copper pipe and wire, etc this is necessary. Next time I will let the metal guys go thru the hassle. Things aren't picked up from your curb in less than 24 hours any longer but you can still find guys with larger trucks to take it if you bring it to them. Supply and demand at work. Side note, In the heyday, I left 2 spare PW axles in the driveway of my rental property and before I could move them behind the gate, 1 was stolen. I never thought one of these guys would heft an axle with brake drums, etc into the back of a truck.
