I took a 9v battery and bridged the posts of the ammeter to see which way the needle moved. With the (+) terminal of the battery on the driver side of the meter, the needle reads discharge (about 1 amp). The wire from the battery (+) now lands on the drivers side of the meter, and all the accessories and power from the alternator now land on the passenger side of the meter. I will try putting some more load on the system and see if the meter responds correctly.
