the splines on the half ton axles and the wms etc. are the same but the shaft diameter behind the spline on the wm etc. is thicker than the half ton
the spindles(as far as i can tell) on the half ton rear axle are the same as the wm etc. front and rear spindle
and yes my oilfield truck that i bought for parts had a cracked spindle--but he was running duals with serious overload springs and a reenforced frame--the frame was also cracked in front of the front spring hanger
no telling how much abuse the truck was put thru--plus as vaughn says the play in the carrier and wheel bearings may have become excessive by the time they parked the truck
