10K is the absolute Minimum, 12 is Safe, and if you plan on hauling extra items or lots of tools, a 14K is good.

I'd highly recommend Torsion Axles rather than traditional springs. Rides smoother and less maintenance.

Brakes on both axles, no question.

8 Lug, yep, almost all reputable manufactures of 12-14K won't even build a 5 lug.

Their are lots of user specific extras you can get, just think through what all you plan on doing with the trailer.
