You are probably right about improved ride quality. If my thoughts about improved articulation are correct, there also may be an added benefit of increased payload while at least maintaining stock ride quality if not improving it. I see the potential behind this design. I suspect it was not inexpensive as I am unaware of any design like this ever having been used by major manufactures.

I don't immediately see why it would not work for front application, however there is a lot that changes when you add steering to an axle. I suspect it would not behave the same as four-link or three-link suspension.

The whole setup reminds me of what I saw on a truck I happened to be parked next to at a Trucker's Jamboree a few years ago. It was a Peterbuilt road tractor that had an unusual suspension on the rear axles. A lot of big rig guys were stopping to have a look and were talking about it. Apparently it was very compliant as the truck had been used off-road to pull trailers in the oil fields. I regret that I did not pay enough attention to learn more about it and that I did not get any photos.
