Hi Manny...I understand you wanting to do it right, but what I've done with connectors that no longer snap tight due to age, tab breakage, etc. is to set them together with a bead of silicone sealer and taping or wiring together till it sets.....Not the best, or right way, but it usually works. Your trimmed-rib sensor would be a similar situation.
One boater to another: I also apply a thin wipe of silicone around the upper base of bulbs before inserting in the socket. Forms a nice little bead between base and socket, stabilizing the bulb and helping a bit in preventing corrosion. However, makes removal a 'break the bulb and needle nose plier' exercise.
