What bellhousing, flywheel starter combination are you using?
In the case of the one I did, 360 with a 435, hydraulic bellhousing 172 tooth flywheel.
I used a 251 Starter and had it re wound to be heavy duty. I used Harvey Bros in Illinois to do the starter rewinding. It is basically the same starter as the early Hemi's. It worked well with headers and a Power Steering box mounted inside the frame rail.
