Wow, that could have been so much worse! If you have trouble getting money out of the guy, try going after his homeowners insurance (if he doesn't have any on his ATV).
I had a girl pull out in front of me a couple Sundays ago. I was going 50mph through an intersection (with a green light), and she just pulled out in front of me. I was able to swerve just enough to avoid her front bumper, though I don't know how we didn't collide. She was staring at her idiot phone on top of her steering wheel as I blew past her front end.
