Almost all modern vehicles have some method of lubing the leafs. Some, a plastic bumper at the ends, some a plastic layer full length, some used a fabric/burlap wick in a depression stamped into the leaves. And the WWII Dogde amublances had the whole spring pack wrapped in fabric saturated with oil, then covered with a sheet metal armor. Looked like an armadillo riding your axle.

Shocks and rubber snubbers ought to prevent the shackle flipping. I did have a 54 Jeep truck that would flip a shackle, but the whole suspension was fubared- spring perches were flipped, ride height increased to make room for 12/16.5s, No snubbers no more. Lots of fun otherwise, Chev 350, close ratio tranny, 5.38s, smoke all 4 on pavement. Also, break pools and axles.... Dana 24 front. 30 rear?
