Consensus is that the 130 hp motor with the P7100 inline injection pump is the one to get. It already starts out with more HP, and the P7100 can be turned up to deliver lots of fuel for performance mods.

Second to that is the VE rotary injection pump model. They can be turned up for more hp. Properly done, I suspect they would be just fine. The VE is lighter and quieter (but still loud compared to any non-diesel and rough compared to any six cylinder). The VE has a little finer RPM modulation. The VE can deliver better (though perhaps insignificantly so) fuel economy, simply because it take less energy to turn the pump compared to the P7100.

That covers your two common automotive applications. All others will be more limited in RPM range.

I've got an 1839 that I should probably sell. Though, it's comforting to have inventory.
