I also remember the penny trick. They used to sell felt-like washers that were treated with something that were placed under the clamp and were supposed to do the same thing. Another advantage of copper/brass radiator tanks is ease of repair. I had an old Pontiac Grand Prix on which a previous owner had repaired a hole in the tank by soldering a penny over it....My two-cents worth.
