Hmmmm....on my 230 crankshaft, the distance from the front of the snout (i.e., the very front of the crankshaft) to the front of the timing gear is about 1.380". Yours (1-25/32) is about 1.78". Unless one of us is in error, then the two crankshafts are not the same in that regard. Of course, there are two different timing gear and chain sets for the flatheads, so makes me wonder if the one on the 265 is different (narrower) than the one on the 230.

In the end, what matters is how much the 230 crank pulley will stick out from the front of the engine block, once it's installed on the 265 crankshaft, and whether it will then line up with the 230 generator and its pulley and the 230 water pump and its pulley when I install those on the 251/265 engine block. Some guys have said that transplanting these 230 components onto the long block works fine on the 237 long-block engine, but now I'm wondering if it's workable on the 265 or not. Maybe the 237 and 265 crankshafts are different in this area? I also know some folks could not use the 230 parts, but instead have had to use the 251/265 water pump and alternator and pulleys, but I had the impression that they did it to help with clearance between the fan and the radiator. If necessary, I suppose it might be possible to space the other pulleys forward to line up with the crank pulley.

Thanks for the info, Ed!
