They seem to be kind of like windshield wipers. It seems the earliest trucks had only a driver side windshield wiper and a driver side sun visor. Very soon, these two features were added to the passenger side also.
Someone else mentioned that the sun visors were part of the Deluxe cab option. I believe this to be correct. My WDX did not have the Deluxe cab, and it did not have sun visors, however there were mounting holes for sun visors on both the driver side and the passenger side. The holes were unthreaded, had factory paint in them, and had never had screws in the holes. So, at least on my WDX, the starter holes for both sun visors were there from the factory.
