One thing I'd add into the equation is your retirement. You'll have more time to work on a project then and it is something to consider. Reason I say this is because you listed your age. This makes no difference if you don't have the desire to work on it but I'd give yourself some time before letting it go.
I've always found projects lift my spirits as it's that sense of accomplishments. A diversion from the worlds drama. As Paul from NY said. Try to do one thing a day however small. Once you get going, the desire and reward starts again.
