Only had the commutator turned by my local guy for $10. Brush holders were a royal pain to get the springs situated right. Never worked on that style before. This is the first 12-volt direct drive starter I've refurbished. Was pretty careful to make sure nothing is shorting to ground. Will double check. Originally when I reassembled the Bendix worked but motor didn't. Took it all apart again, cleaned connections, and reassembled. At least I have it working now but it wont last long at this rate.
