i grew up where 400-500 inches of snow was thge norm,any protrusion through a roof system had an adequate sized cricket built to splitthe snow around the protrusio. even masonry fireplace chimneys ! this will solve the continuig problem of losing vent pipes, etc. on your roofs. just like a small dormer roof over the doorways to split the snow to the sides of the stoop.
