In that case, better to hook the good battery in series with the charger so you give the dead battery 24 volts to get it going. There are also some gimmicky chargers out there that use high-voltage pulses that supposedly "crack" the sulfate apart. They don't do that, but what the pulses DO do is give it a little extra voltage kick to get the charging process going. I don't like "smart" chargers -- dead batteries usually outsmart them -- and the only "float" charger I like is a constant regulated 13.8 VDC. People try to work too much magic into the maintenance of flooded lead-acid batteries. Part of the reason they've been around for 120 years is that they have very straightforward chemistry and they withstand enormous abuse.

Now, if you want to get fancy, try charging a Li-Ion or Li-PO battery the way the manufacturers want you do to it. You pretty much need an extra computer just to control the battery charging.
