They did recycle old battery's. They had a area they busted them up to get the lead out and separate the other stuff from the acid and pump it into big plastic vats. That was part of what I was fixing the acid vapors was eating up the electrical stuff real bad. Those guys had masks on but never offered me one to wear nor did I ask? That was back in the days when employees were expendable. I have worked in many areas people would not be allowed to work in now with out fresh air packs. Probley why my lungs are so messed up now. One was cleaning swimming pools with acid and chlorine scrubbing down the insides the pools coughing as a 16 year old for $1.25 a hour. The boss would stand at the top making sure the pump kept working to remove the stuff?
