I only watched the short gun truck one so far but will get the others tomorrow. Sure brings back memories. I was not in gun trucks but did see them. I was with 1/50th Mechanized Infantry. Came incountry Jan 1, 1968 and was in a field company about 2 weeks later. Just in time for Tet. Even though we were a mechanized unit those days before Tet our company was at LZ English and we made air assaults every day. We were attached to the First Air Cavalry and they used us as legs along with the Mechanized part. First ride I had in an APC was when TET fired off we were sent south of LZ Uplift into battle.

Tet was not bad for us. Not sure we had any KIA's in our company and my platoon only two guys incurred small fragmentation wounds. I was the medic and one was on my track and other fella on another track which my pard Robert got to first. Main reason it was not bad is mid December a major several day battle near LZ English did a number on the bad guys. 650+ enemy loss by actual body count. Flame tracks accounted for most of those, many in caves and underground bunkers.

Nearly 8 months in the field before I got a rear job in our aid station. For some reason I was senior medic with time and rank on Robert and he got out of the field first! Not happy when I found that out. In the end it turned out well for me at the time. No PTSD or purple heart although I was the target at least twice I know of. Maybe more I don't know about.
