That is a strange issue, I have been thinking about it and it doesn't make sense, the fuel system in all the diesel engines i am familiar with, are fully pressurized and you just shouldn't have that kind of issue.
Unless it is in the tank itself???

if it is really cold you may get fuel gel issues but that is usually fixed by using some diesel power service additive.
could it be a loose wire?
that one is tough, hope you figure it out soon.

By the way i agree with you, the BFG KO2 is hands down the best winter tire i have ever seen it sticks to the snow and ice like velcro! it is astonishing how well they work!
