I used a 1" hole saw and made a hole just above the gap in the split ring. From that hole, I used a sawzall with metal blade and cut down thru the gap in the ring, all the way thru the tire baed. It was real easy to remove the ring after doing so.
This is a bad idea if you plan to reuse the tire.
