The overheating is not because of the engine being new or tight....I mean the amount of listening in 1000 miles is almost nil. I mean the only reason to go easy on a new engine & allow the rpms to vary is to seat the rings & hopefully end up with a better running engine with less blow by. The overhearing, my guess is thermostat, or even radiator. Did you install a new core or at least clean & flow test the original?
I'm sure you must have done so if this is a new engine but you installed a new distribution tube?
