I used a Harbor Freight vacuum extractor with limited success. Besides being slow the problem with going through the dipstick was it was hard to tell if you were in the oil, or if your tube had bounced off the bottom of the pan, sucking air, or if the extractor simply wasn't sucking.
I want to see the oil spilling out into a bucket so I know it is working while I wait.
