those kind of parts as you suggest wont go bad on the shelf. I have not found new pistons, bearing etc better than NOS. I plastigauge and mic everything when I do rebuilds. multi layer rod bearings have been around since before ww2. the NOS pistons made by Chrysler are cast aluminum which was ahead of its time when they started doing it.
