Good cause there are many ways you could wire one in. Right off the alternator (detecting only the output of it)or the wire feeding the truck system off the battery(detecting just the regular loads) ect. To cover the whole system you need to put it right off the battery ahead of everything so it will tell you it is charging or discharging and at what rate. You pump is probley wired right to the battery so it won't affect the gauge reading showing a discharge, but will show a positive charge the alternator can put out going back to the battery trying to keep it charged up. The volt meter will tell you the system is charging or discharging by being above 12.5 volts. You want it to stay around 14-14.5 volts when the engine is running and about 12.5 when off. If it stays around 13-14 volts when using the pump you are putting back what your using at the same time with the alternator. This is hard to understand unless you work with it.
