I used the 12 volt coil on my 6X6 and did not use the outside resistor type. No problems starting mine sitting outside during last winter for months at a time between starting it. Fired right off every time on the first push on the starter. I went with the coil they use on the electronic system but stuck with points cause I like them, I can see how they work. It has like 18,000 volts to the plugs.
