I have rewired several trucks. A Willy Wagon comes to mind where the wires were fed through the holes in the firewall. There was lots of wear and burn marks on the wires at that point. What ever you do never use butt connectors on larger wires like head lights. I found lots of heat damage and burnt insulation next to connectors in these circuits. The wire's insulation had pulled away from the connectors due to heat build up leaving bear wire exposed. Crimping and corrosion in those open connections seem to be the cause of the heat. I believe soldering all conductors does a much better job. I use heat shrink tubing on all joints and connectors to keep moisture out.
