I normally just restore and sell. It takes more time than most realize to get them "restored" and the metal is so thin on them that even light sandblasting can blow holes through quickly. The rivets they used gave way quick too as you have found.
The Model 8's(SigStat 4 3/8" lens) seem to be more in numbers than the model 17 style(4" Acystat) Model 8 double drums have been in demand more lately than the singles. I always found it odd they went with just a 3/8" difference as they made them at the same time. I heard it was required for bigger trucks at the time.
