in a newer rig. ended up being the connection at the engine block end of the ground cable. it was tight, but took it apart and found corrosion. once cleaned it was all good again. That said, the only time I have had sulfur smells is an overcharged or shorted battery. I have had the battery get hot in parts then bulge and it was a shorted cell.
electrical is frustrating, keep the faith you will find it!
