There was a story that went around SE Iowa back in the day of a farmer who was tired of replacing fence poles every time some drunk missed the curve and piled through his fence. So he cut a 10 foot by 20 inch corner post from hedge and mended the fence.
The next wreck totaled the pickup, put the driver in the hospital and barely scuffed the hedge post. Second crash did the same to a car, and then the county made him take the post out. Too dangerous, they said.
Eventually, he rounded his fence away from that sharp corner to keep the peace..
