After reading this article and one we can all relate to, company service by employees, I may have found why bronze cones were used on Tracta Joint axles. Since tracta's use grease to lubricate them, grease doesn't get to the upper bearing to lubricate it, so it has to manually be lubricated. The question then is, does grease get all around a tapered roller bearing when manually lubricated, or does it take the route of lease resistance and partially lubricate some rollers giving us a false since of proper bearing lubrication, I don't know. If the vehicle is not used to often, using tapered rollers may not be a concern. I do think there is greater dependability using bronze cones over tapered cones when traveling a lot over rough terrain, giving the steering knuckles longer life, but this just my opinion. Anyway, the article may help you decide, if you're considering using tapered rollers over bronze cones.
