I agree with Kaegi and Vaughn. If the bronze trunnions have lasted this long, why reinvent the wheel now?

In my opinion the bronze design is more durable than cones in a bearing which have line contact and can hammer into a flat shape over time since they are not continually rotating like a wheel bearing. There is inherently a lot more surface contact area between the stock parts.
