Thanks for the tip. I couldn't do this because my starter wouldn't turn over, but I learned a hell of a lot reading all this. Thanks! Turns out my problem was that the cast housing is broken where the starter lever pin goes through the housing. This allowed the lever to twist and move slightly so the contacts were not connecting.
