Interesting. That is good to know. Also, you may wish to know that these shafts may be shot peened. I read a spec or a manual for the Power Wagon, which said the axle shafts were shot peened. Your metallurgy shop may be able to tell you. The appearance is such that they could be peened, but that could also be the as-forged surface finish, so I'm not 100% sure.
