Hi all,
The 315 engine that my Girl Scouts are rebuilding is progressing nicely. next meeting we will be installing the distributor / oil pump drive gear and th distributor.
The 57 shop manual makes no mention of installing the gear, (it is a seperate gear and shaft that engages the can, and drives both the oil pump and dist., unlike on the 230's where the gear is integral to the oil pump) The manual that covers the early 318 has a good description, but I being a different engine, is the process the same?
The 318 directions say to align the tongue of the oil pump parallel to the crankshaft, and with the engine at TDC (compression) #1, install the gear, so that as the teeth mesh it rotates to the correct spot, dropping the slot on the gear shaft onto the tongue of the oil pump. Installing the distributor I am all set with, just want to get the gear timed correctly to the cam.
Thanks in advance!
Tim
