I am also doing the same on my WC-26 right now. From what I have determined the rubber flap side is on the outside edge of the canal. And it is also the side that goes in first. The tapered side is used to draw the canvas up as you tamp it in the canal. As you work it around you will draw up the canvas twice as you work the rubber into the parallel canals. I've made 32 wood wedges to stuff the canvas into the canal all the way around the top. Then when you apply the rubber you just remove those wedges as you work your way back around to the rear of the truck. Good Luck!!!!! It is going to be a chore.
