Yes the crankshaft turns clockwise when looking at the front of the engine.
But,
Your timing the Dist. rotor not the Balancer.
To advance the timing (BTDC) you turn the Dist into the rotor direction. If the Rotor turns to the right, which it does, you turn the Dist. to the left.
To retard the timing (ATDC) you turn the Dist.
With the rotor direction to the right.
The rotor fires clockwise.
