Sorry about posting twice, although I could swear I only posted once. Oh well, must be getting old. As far as the switch is concerned, I have even run a separate ground line from the switch to a good ground and the same problem persists. I remove the pilot light lug from the flasher and the light goes out. Re-install it and the pilot comes on very dim. Maybe I will switch all the wires in the system and go - ground and see if it works that way. Thanks to all for the advice.
