yes Dan and Tim, I do have the head off. It is a 230 6 in an Early WDX. I get movement in both intake and exhaust sides of cylinders 2 through 6, but nothing on #1. I can only get a partial turn on crank before a firm "thud". I will pull fender and splash guard today and yank tappit cover and work with ATF and pbblaster. Thanks a lot guys, will keep you updated!
