Well, the only 'strips' I've ever seen for use in automotive brake system diagnosis are intended to detect moisture. I imagine the Ph of brake fluid has relative importance, however the presence of moisture is of paramount concern. I am not certain how these strips do the actual testing for moisture -whether the resultant chemical changes affect Ph balance in a manner easily detectible by altering the color of some chemical in the strip or something of that nature, but it's the moisture over which all the fuss is made. Brake fluid has a definite affinity for moisture. This is why we keep the container tightly closed and the cap on the master, too. Brake fluid may be somewhat corrosive to certain things -like paint, but it is good ol' H2O that makes us wish we had enough spare bucks in the budget to get all the cylinders stainless sleeved.
