Acidic Brake Fluid

Had the "other" truck at Pep Boys for a quick front pad change and they informed me that my brake fluid was very acidic. I asked them about what the "heck" they were talking about. They pulled out a piece of litmus paper that indicated that yes, the brake fluid was on the acid side of the scale, but they couldn't tell me why this was a bad thing or how brake fluid changes PH. I never heard of checking brake fluid for acidity or what the concequences of a slightly acidic brake fluid would be. I would imagine it would have to be greatly acidic to result in pitting of the wheel cylinders or lines. Any ideas?
