i, too have a 74 W200,318,etc. it is a 3/4 ton, the plate on the door lists 8000 lb. gvwr as maximum gvwr. i think(not positive,however)that the lighter available ratings for that year were 6500 lb.s(base rating) and 7000 lb.s (intermediate rating),and PRESUMABLY,at the lighter ratings there should be another plate/sticker listing the actual gvw limitations. i saw a 74 W200 for sale recently that had the same max. gvw 8000 on an embossed plate on the door,on the door jamb was a sticker listing the gvw as 7000 as equipped.
