A fellow named Will Liebscher from the LA area frequents the M37 forum and states that he and some other guys from the LA area have 'nearly unbreakable' axle shafts for the rear. He's working on some level of production but it's in formative stage right now so who knows how long before parts are going out the door.

Foote made rear axle shafts but no longer. No reports of those being broken.

As Brian stated, the long shaft is just a bit too long, I believe 40.5", and the aftermarket axle folks say 40" maxlength.

Strange reportedly made some in the past. They now say that they won't make any for PW/M37 because they concentrate on street and race that don't have the shear or side loads of offroad. Guess they don't know these are full floating axles(with sturdy housings) that are experiencing mostly torsional loads. But more likely just don't want to mess with it and instead of simply saying "not interested" used a lame excuse.
