Hood/hinge/pivot question...

Seems the last owner welded the hood pieces together at the cab end. (So it wouldn't swing around for painting???) But there's a bead of weld there (hood's still not on the truck) that makes the metal pieces, that are rivoted to each hood side, bend when attempting to operate the hood. And we all know what happens to thin metal if its bent back and forth a few times! The manual only shows the two hood pieces and latches. Anyone ever disassembled their hood? I don't get where I should be grinding on this. I've got the little dremel tool out there trying to take off what I can and keep attempting to see how these pieces all work together to open either side, or both sides at the same time. Very confusing to look at without being able to swing them open to watch. The end that tucks under the cap on the radiator side is fine. The two hood sides seem to "C" together from opposite directions to make the main pin down the center act as the hinge pin for both sides. That's what I'm guessing, is that this "pin" runs the length of the hood, and someone's just zapped a weld on that end to hold it... for some unknown reason. If anyones got anythoughts/experience/photos of how the hood works, I'd GREATLY Appreciate it!
Thanks all!
Dana
