Here's how I do it.

I look at a truck that the owner wants $1000 for.

I then make a list of my expected expenses after I buy the truck in order to get it to where I will be happy. For example;

Engine work $800
Body and Paint $1200
Tires and wheels $900
headliner and interior $400
Drivetrain repair and rework $300

This adds up to $3600
Then I double that = $7200
Then I add the original price $1000
Grand total $8200
Then I ask myself if I am willing to pay that amount to make this a reliable truck. If the answer is yes, then buy it.
Simple
Best Wishes
Lonnie
