Tell her you are experimenting with modernistic art using power wagon parts. A door set on a couple of stands makes a nice coffee table and generates discussion with your guests. Hang the hood laid flat on the wall and use it as a backdrop for attaching family photographs using magnets.
The time worn features of the parts will add charachter and depth to your room.
Honestly if people can get away with antiquing new furniture and using old tools and stuff to add interest to a featureless box I say go for it.
