NDTs don't work well on wet or icy pavement.

My first 4x4 was a 1953 M38A1 (basicaly the military version of the CJ5). It came with civilian tires and I thought the original NDTs would look better, so I hunted up a set and mounted them up.

I lived on a hill at the time. Two days after mounting the NTDs we had some wet snow, hardly sticking to the pavement. I took the jeep down the hill, or I should say it took me.

I had NO directional control. I ended up half way down the hill in the gutter on the wrong side of the street. I put it in 4 wheel drive and spun my way back up to my house, where I exchanged it for my wife's Geo Metro (which handled the conditions without complaint).

Next day I put the civilian tires back on the jeep, where they stayed for the rest of the winter season.
